"What is Down Syndrome"

Down Syndrome is an innate disorder appear from a defect of the chromosome. It comes with a physical deformity and intellectual disability. Down syndrome also includes short height and little board facial outline.

Down’s syndrome causes intellectual disablement and it’s may lead to noticeable facial appearance. Down’s Syndrome may come with heart illness and thyroid.

Symptoms of Down Syndrome

There are some symptoms we can find in the individual with Down syndrome. They are followings

  • Eye features: 

They have lazy eye  that is not functioning properly because it is not been used enough and have spots.

  • Developmental features: 

Children with Down’s syndrome have developmental delayed and learning impairment. May also have a speech delayed and they become shorter than other respect height.

  • Also Some Common: 

Children with Down Syndrome have difficulties to think and understand. They have different body structure. Like, their skull is shorter than typical, a long tubular nose with a prominent nasal bridge and tip, there is an instability to the first and second cervical vertebrae, displacement of the tongue, immune deficit, heart diseases, thyroid, vision disorder, hearing impairment, heaviness, sleeping disorder, breathing by mouth etc.

Down’s Syndrome in The Indian Population:

There are many different kinds of Down’s syndrome, which can affect an individual differently. Down’s syndrome is a sort of mental retardation brought on by an excess chromosome, leading to a moderate to severe amount of general retardation.

Down syndrome is set by taking a look at a karyotype or an image of chromosomes after cell division is complete. It has patients suffering from serious language difficulties and a few cognitive ones.

It is not the only disorder that can be screened for, it is just the primary one being done right now. It is the most common genetic disorder that causes severe learning disability in children.

The sooner the children with Down syndrome should receive the individual treatment and attention which they need.

Early intervention with all therapies can make a significant change in children with Down’s syndrome. The following treatment can help to manage Down syndrome.

  • Therapy including
  • Speech therapy– To develop an individual speech and language program.
  • Group therapies– For counseling and sharing similar conditions like weight loss.
  • Occupational Therapy- To improve wok skill and daily living skills.
  • Physical therapy- Enhances muscle strength and works through different exercises.
  • Physical Exercise- To improve cardio vascular health aerobic activity is very helpful. Everyday 20-30 minutes aerobic activity for 4-5 days per week can apply.
  • Special Education- Special education which focus on all educational part uniquely for individuals with down syndrome.
